RECTILINEARISM
I find myself increasingly interested in our collective obsession with straight lines. Specifically, why the feeling of satisfaction associated with symmetry is so profound. I can’t offer an answer to this question as of yet, but I can speculate. I like to believe that we feel a sense of otherness when studying straight lines/surfaces. Not a necessarily a negative otherness, but a feeling of escape from the unpredictability we are used to. When viewing the photographs below, I encourage you to further consider how the order makes you feel, regardless if it be relaxation or tension. Moving forward I will continue this line of inquiry in order to provide you with a better answer of my own.
In my previous project NEGLECTED FORM, the focus was on trying to abstract every-day items to a point of non-recognition. While RECTILINEARISM also deals with abstraction, it does so specifically within the realm of architecture.
